Turner earns a third place finish in Steeplechase at SAC Championship

HICKORY, N.C. – Brevard College’s track and field teams competed in the South Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University, over the weekend.

Junior Brent Turner continued his success on the track side with a third place finish in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase, the second time this season he has finished in the top three of the event. Turner also competed in the men’s 5000 meter run, finishing 13th against the SAC’s best runners with a 16:00.64 time. Fellow Tornado Hassan Kiprono ran against Turner in the event, placing ninth overall with a 15:45.90 finish.

Marlow Macklin posted his best outing in the men’s 100 meter dash, qualifying for the finals by a nose with an 11.20 run in the preliminary round. In the final’s, Macklin erased .09 seconds from his time to finish eighth in the event. Jackson Vause, Jacques Ash, Seth McIntosh and Arvin Berry also competed in the preliminary heats.

On the field side, Henry Pryor finished fifth in the men’s shot put with a 13.91 meter throw. The sophomore also competed in the men’s discus throw, posting the best Tornado result with a 29.90 meter attempt.
