Dagley, Weber named preseason all-conferenceAugust 2, 2016
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior offensive lineman Branden Dagley and sophomore punter Kevin Weber have been selected to the preseason all-South Atlantic Conference second team after a vote of the league’s media relations directors.
Dagley, a Warner Robins, Georgia, native, has been a three-year starter on the Tornados’ line, including every game at the right guard position in 2015. Dagley’s selection gives Brevard at least one offensive lineman honored on pre- or postseason all-conference teams for the eighth consecutive season dating back to Brevard second South Atlantic Conference campaign in 2009.
“Branden will be a four-year starter for us this season,” said Hamilton. “He’s been a staple on our offensive line during several years where we were one of the top rushing teams in the country. We expect him to help anchor the offensive line this season.”
Weber led the league and ranked ninth in Division II in punting average at 42.4 yards per kick in 2015. He was fifth among freshmen at all NCAA divisions and first among Division II freshmen in punting average and led the Tornados to a No. 5 national ranking in net punting. Sixteen punts traveled at least 50 yards, including a 71-yard punt at Lenoir-Rhyne that would have been the fourth-longest punt in the National Football League in 2015. He was named second team all-Super Region 2 and honorable mention All-America by the Don Hansen Football Committee.
“We’re very proud of Kevin being recognized by our conference,” Hamilton said. “He’s very deserving of this honor based on his performance last fall in addition to what he’ll bring us this season.”
The Tornados begin their season on Thursday, Sept. 1, with a 5:45 p.m. kickoff against visiting East Stroudsburg.
