Tornados open 2016 season at Eye Opener Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Tornados Women’s Cross Country began their 2016 season at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. Thursday evening traveling four runners to compete in the Division I loaded field.


On the Division II side of racing, Limestone college took home the meet title with 27 total points as Anderson, Lincoln Memorial, Converse and Erskine concluded the evening run.


Limestone’s Allyson Malone won the meets top price as she ran to a first-place time of 19:12.89 beating her team Sarah Rutto by over 45 seconds.


Senior Elena Raygoza (Quatz Hill, Calif.) led the way for the Tornados as the veteran runner turned in a meet time of 22:20.77, while fellow senior Madison Smith (Duvall, Wash.) turned in a mark of 24:36.35.


Freshman Mary Davis (Raleigh, N.C.) and Rhyanna Hadden competed in their first collegiate race as the true freshman turned in times of 24:44.91 and 31:47.04, respectively.


The Tornadoes will return to the course September 10 in Greenville, S.C. as they turn their attention to the Furman XC Classic hosted by Furman University.
