Tornados cruise to 4-0 victory over Emory & HenrySeptember 9, 2016
EMORY, VA. – The Brevard College Women’s Soccer team (3-0) cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Emory & Henry Wasps (1-3) Friday evening in Emory, Va. giving the Tornados three consecutive wins to begin the season for the first time since the 2013-14 squad won their straight contest against King, Erskine and Converse to open the year.
The Tornados opened the evenings scoring 25 minutes into the first half as freshman Ashley Mevoli (St. Petersburg, Fla.) collected a long pass from center back Kathleen Gant (Columbia, S.C.), that the freshman fired to the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Brevard would answer their opening score just over two minutes later when senior Anita Maryskova (Liberec, Czech Republic) capitalized on a double assist from senior Alyssa Bois (Leonardtown, Md.) and sophomore Ashley Hughes (Charlotte, N.C.) that put Brevard up 2-0.
Brevard would tack on two more goals in the second half when sophomore Caroline David (Charlotte, N.C.) beat an out of position Wasps goalkeeper to increase the Tornados lead to 3-0. While Bois and Hughes teamed up for the second time on the evening, this time Hughes placing a ball at the feet of Bois that allowed the senior to power in a 20-yard shot just inside the near post.
The Tornados four goal performance Friday evening made it back-to-back contests that the blue and white have scored four goals in a game. Additionally, Brevard has not allowed a goal in their first three contests, limiting the Wasps to just two shots and one shot on goal during the matchup.
Brevard finished the contest with a 19-2 shot advantage as Maryskova, David and Bois each finished with three shots apiece while six other Tornados accounted for shot attempts on the evening.
Sophomore goaltender Elise Youmans (West Hartford, Conn.) improved to 3-0 between the pipes for the blue and white as the netminder was called into action on one occurrence during the matchup, collecting one save to help preserve the shutout victory.
Brevard will look to make it four consecutive victories in a row September 14 as they face off in their first South Atlantic Conference matchup of the season with the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters in Harrogate, Tenn., action is schedule to get underway at 1 p.m.
