While Valdosta St. and Armstrong Atlantic, two national powerhouse programs also finished the opening frame at five-under par and three-under par, respectively.

This year’s Kiawah Invitational features a strong field of competitors as last season’s South Atlantic Conference Champion, Lincoln Memorial University finished the first round in a tie with Mount Olive for 10th-place overall with an opening tally of 295.

Stephens currently sits in a seven way tie for sixth-place as the senior carved the Kiawah Island Golf Resort with an opening round score of 70, two-under par. While teammate Oskar Lundgren (Umea, Sweden) posted a day one total of 75, three-over par.

Additionally, the Tornados were led by solid performances from seniors Sebastian Strehl (Asperg, Germany) and Luis Vega (Madrid, Spain) who opened the season with first rounds of 77 and 78, respectively. While senior Paul Calac (Valley Center, Calif.) turned in an opening round tally of 80.

The Tornados will look to make up ground tomorrow as much of the invitational pack will spread out as opening round lows and day two scores should allow the Tornados to climb up the leader board. Look for Brevard to make a push into the top-10 tomorrow as the veteran Tornados will look to capitalize of solid golf weather currently surrounding Kiawah, S.C.
