Brevard wraps up first Kiawah Island InvitationalSeptember 13, 2016
KIAWAH, S.C. – The Brevard College Men’s Golf team moved up two spots on the final round of the Kiawah Island Invitational shooting a second round 293 to finish 15th overall with a final score of 593, 17-over par in their opening event of the season.
Rollins College claimed the invitational title posting a tournament low round of 279 on Tuesday to finish at 569, seven-under par for the event. Valdosta State was the only other remaining team to finish under par as they edged out Coker and Lincoln Memorial for second-place overall. Coker and Lincoln Memorial finished in third and fourth, respectively, while Limestone and Armstrong Atlantic rounded out the top-five in a two-way tie for fifth-place.
Limestone’s Cabrick Waters took home the tournament top individuals honors with a two-day tally of 137, seven-under par. Nearly edging out Lincoln Memorial’s Sam Broadhurst by two strokes who finished at 139, five-under par in the two-day event.
Senior Oskar Lundgren (Umea, Sweden) led the Tornados on the links posting a tournament tally of 147, three-over par for a top-30 performance. While teammates Craig Stephen (Torphins, Scotland) and Paul Calac (Valley Center, Calif.) finished the opening event of the season tied at 148, five-over par. Stephen posted scores of 70 and 79, while Calac finished with rounds of 80 and 69, posting the Tornados lowest round of the tournament on the final afternoon of play.
In addition to the efforts of Lundgren, Stephen and Calac, seniors Luis Vega (Madrid, Spain) and Sebastian Strehl (Asperg, Germany) contributed to the overall team effort as Vega finished at 151, seven-over par, while Strehl completed the tournament at 162, 18-over par.
The Tornados will return to the links this coming Monday and Tuesday as they prepare to host their annual Etowah Intercollegiate September 19-20 at Etowah Valley Golf and Resort.
