Tornados turn in 4th-place run at WinthropSeptember 17, 2016
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Junior Hassan Kiprono (Iten, Kenya) and senior Brent Turner (West Monroe, La.) power Tornados to fourth-place finish at 33rd annual Winthrop/Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. Saturday morning.
Emmanuel took home the invitational title for non-division I programs with an over score of 60 points, while Morehouse (84), Catawba (89), Brevard (99) and Benedict (106) completed the fields top-five team finishers.
Morehouse’s Trey Simons won the overall event with a time of 25:08.74, while Wingate’s Dalton Cox finished top out of the competing South Atlantic Conference programs with a time of 26:41.76.
Kiprono turned in the Tornados best performance of the afternoon as the junior complete the 8000 meter course in a time of 26:58.15 for 11th-place overall, while Turner capped off an impressive morning run with a 16th-place time of 27:13.14
In addition to Kiprono and Turner, sophomore Jordan Lance (Panama City Beach, Fla) aided the Tornados venture to Rock Hill with a 35th-place performance and an overall time of 28:40.87. While freshman Michael Anton (Woodleaf, N.C.) and Henry Crowder (Tampa, Fla.) completed Brevard’s top-five point totals.
The Tornados will return to race action October 1 after a brief hiatus as they travel to nearby Asheville, N.C. to compete in the UNCA CC Challenge.
