GREENEVILLE, TENN. – Junior Kelsie Rhyne (Taylorsville, N.C.) closed out the final round of the 2016 Tusculum Women’s Fall Classic with her third consecutive career round, improving on an opening day score of 81 to end Tuesday afternoon with a round of 80, eight-over par to finish the event at 161, 17-over par and a share of 26th-place overall.
On the team side of tournament play, Tusculum College took home their second-straight win after earning first-place honors last week at the Etowah Intercollegiate. The Pioneers finished the two-day event with a score of 595, 19-over par. While fellow South Atlantic Conference member Lenoir-Rhyne just missed the top team honor, as the Bears fell by five-strokes.
Lenoir-Rhyne’s Abbey Hartsell took home top individual honors, beating out Tusculum’s Katie Tomassoni in a playoff for the top spot as both SAC performers turned in a two-day tally of 144, even par. Tusculum would take two more top-five placements as Ciara Rattana and Cydney Murrell each finished the tournament at 150, six-over par.
In addition to Rhyne’s career performance at the classic, sophomore Courtney Sharp (Jacksboro, Tenn.) finished the tournament with a two-day tally of 167, 23-over par as the sophomore turned in the Tornados best round of the season on Monday with a six-over par 78. Sophomore Taylor Scovel (Charlotte, N.C.) completed the Tornados showing in Greeneville as the Charlotte, N.C. native turned in a score card of 173, 29-over par with rounds of 86 and 87.
Brevard will close out the fall portion of their 2016-17 campaign October 24-25 as they take part in the Pfeiffer Invitational in Mt. Gilead, N.C., hosted by Tillery Tradition Country Club.
