Tornados 12th overall after day one at Myrtle BeachOctober 3, 2016
SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – The Tornados opened the 2016 Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at Panther’s Ridge Golf Links Monday with a 17-over par 305. Brevard will look to build off a 12-place opening round tomorrow as they close out the second round of the tournament.
Duke University’s B-Team currently leads the Intercollegiate after an opening round 275, 13-under par, while North Greenville University wrapped up the opening turn with a one-under par 287. Lenoir-Rhyne ended the round as the top South Atlantic Conference performer as the Bears edge out LMU by one-stroke for an opening score of 290.
Belmont Abbey’s Nick Stafford and Duke’s Adam Wood and Alexander Matlari currently hold the top individual honors as the trio finished the opening round with cards of 67, five-under par.
Senior Luis Vega (Madrid, Spain) posted the Tornados best card of the day as the senior sits in a nine-way tie for 24th overall, tallying a two-over par 72. While, sophomore Steffen Heckele (Oberndorf, Germany), senior Sebastian Strehl (Asperg, Germany) and senior Paul Calac (Valley Center, Calif.) all finished the afternoon with cards showing 77, five-over par.
In addition to Vega and Brevard’s qualifying trio, junior Craig Stephen (Torphins, Scotland) who competed in the event as an individual and senior Oskar Lundgren (Umea, Sweden) tallied scores of 78 and 80, respectively.
