Vega finishes Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate with a share of 13th-placeOctober 4, 2016
SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Senior Luis Vega (Madrid, Spain) finishes tied for 13th-overall as the Brevard College Tornados shot the fourth lowest score of the afternoon to finish in ninth-place at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
The Tornados improved on an opening round 305 with a day-two tally of 294, finishing at 599, 23-over par for the event.
Duke University’s B-team took home the team title, carving a two-day total of 556, 20-under par. While, Lincoln Memorial finished as the top Division II and South Atlantic Conference performer, posting a second-place finish at 583, seven-over par. Coker, Belmont Abbey and Lenoir-Rhyne all finished in a three-way tie for third-place with a total of 586, 10-over par.
Duke’s Alexander Matlari and Shrish Dwivedi captured the tournaments individual honors, carving a two-day total of 138, six-under par. While, Belmont Abbey’s Nick Stafford finished as the top Division II performer, posting a fourth-place total of 141, three-under par.
Vega wrapped up his final trip to the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, posting rounds of 74 and 71 for a 145, one-over par performance. Senior Sebastian Strehl (Asperg, Germany) finished with the Tornados second best showing, turning a two-day score card of 77 and 74 for a 151, seven-over par.
In addition to Vega and Strehl, seniors Oskar Lundgren (Umea, Sweden) and Paul Calac (Valley Center, Calif.) and sophomore Steffen Heckele (Oberndorf, Germany) finished in a seven-way tie at 153, nine-over par as the trio wrapped up the Tornados two-day score card.
Brevard will return to action this coming Monday and Tuesday, October 10-11, as they travel to Tazewell, Tenn. for the 2016 State Farm Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at Woodlake Golf Club.
