Brevard battles in double over-time defeatOctober 8, 2016
BREVARD, N.C. – It took 109 minutes for either team to score in tonight’s women’s match as Brevard (5-8-1, 0-7 SAC) fell to Wingate (7-3-1, 5-2 SAC) 1-0 on Saturday.
It was a heart-breaking loss for the Tornados as they fought the entire game. Just as the second over-time was about to expire, Wingate’s Kimmi Moore would get the ball off of a deflection and tap the ball into the goal to end the match for her team leading sixth goal of the year.
Brevard’s defense stepped up big in the contest as they held off attacking Bulldogs. Offensively, Wingate would out-shoot Brevard 33-14 with nine of those shots being on goal. Moore led the Bulldogs with seven shots on the day, and recorded the only goal of the match.
The Tornados’ offense was led by junior, Sydney Alencewicz (Ocoee, Fla.) who finished the day with five shots, three of those being on-goal. Anita Maryskova (Liberec, Czech Republic) would add three shots for the Tornados. Kathleen Gant (Columbia, S.C.) and Ashley Hughes (Charlotte, N.C.) would finish the day with a pair of shots.
Freshman goal keeper, Laurel Neuzil (Loudon, Tenn.) held off the Bulldogs as she had eight saves on the day, giving up the final goal in the last minute of double over-time.
Brevard will look to snap their losing streak as they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. Tuesday, Oct. 11 as they take on Converse for a non-conference game.
