Wolves take down TornadosOctober 19, 2016
Brevard N.C. – The Wolves of Newberry College (6-9-1, 3-5-1 SAC) would score a season-high six goals to defeat Brevard College Women’s Soccer team (5-11-1, 0-9 SAC) by a score of 6-0 in Wednesday night’s conference showdown.
Newberry’s Alyssa Ortega would record three goals for the Wolves giving her a total of 14 goals on the season to lead Newberry. Erika Linch would add two goals for Newberry in the second half of the match, as well as being awarded two assists for two of Ortega’s goals. Marissa Reyna would add a goal for the Wolves as she scored off a cross from Lindsay Huber in the first half of the game.
The Wolves would out-shoot Brevard 35-6, as the Newberrys’ forward, Erika Linch would end the day with 12 shots, six being on-goal.
The Tornados’ offense was led by senior Alyssa Bois (Leonardtown, Md.) who finished with a pair of shots. Kathleen Gant (Columbia, S.C.), Ashley Hughes (Charlotte, N.C.), and Megan Shina (Jamestown, N.C.) would all record a shot on-goal for the Tornados.
Freshman goal keeper, Laurel Neuzil (Loudon, Tenn) would tie her season high in saves with twelve for the match.
Brevard will look for a win on senior day, Saturday Oct. 22, as they take on conference opponent Carson-Newman for a match beginning at 5 pm. The Tornados will honor their five seniors before the game.
