Tornados finish in 9th place at SAC championshipsOctober 22, 2016
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Brevard College’s Men’s Cross Country team competed in the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Tornados would finish in 9th place, with a total time of 2:28:49.90 collecting 246 points.
Brevard’s Hassan Kiprono (Iten, Kenya) would finish in 16th place overall with a time of 27:16.8. Senior, Brent Turner (West Monroe, La.) would finish closely behind Kiprono with a time of 27:33.4 in 21st place.
Mars Hill’s David Jones would be the South Atlantic Conference Champion. The senior finished the 8000-meter race with a time of 25:54.8. Anderson’s Mason Hazel would place second with a time of 26:20.5, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne’s Jacob Black at 26:28.9. Rounding out the top-five finishers were Elijah Inuwa of Queens University with a time of 26:35.3 and Mars Hill’s Brandon Beard at 26:47.4.
Mars Hill would win the SAC Championship with a total time of 2:13:40.80. Queens (60) finished in second with a total time of 2:15:42.10. Receiving a third place finish was Anderson (100) with a total time of 2:17:48.50. Rounding out the top five teams were Lincoln Memorial (121) and Wingate (125).
Senior Micah Voelzow (Charlotte, N.C.) and Sophomore Jordan Lance (Panama City Beach, Fla.) would finish back to back with times of 32:18.8 and 32:26.7 respectively. Rounding out Brevard’s top five was Henry Crowder with a time of 33:58.5.
The Tornados wrapped up their 2016 season, and will begin to prepare for the 2017 season.
