Hill dominates day two of USA mountain bike nationalsOctober 22, 2016
SNOWSHOE, W. VA. – Senior Sarah Hill (Bryanston, Johannesburg) turns in splendid USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals second day with a pair of second-place rides in cross country and downhill events.
Following an exciting second day turn from Snowshow, W. Va. the Brevard College Tornados currently hold a slight lead over Fort Lewis College of Durango for tops in the nation, with the final round of nations set to get underway tomorrow morning.
After a successful opening day performance, the Tornados would waste no time making their presence known on the second day as the women would dominate the cross country event with Hill finishing second overall, ahead of teammates Allison Arensman (Valdese, N.C.), Hannah Arensman (Valdese, N.C.) and Janelle Cole (Rockford, Mich.) who finished fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively in the same event.
On the men’s side of cross country racing freshman Carson Beckett (Benton, Ky.) turned in the Tornados top placement of the event, finishing eighth-over, while teammates Walker Shaw (Hendersonville, N.C.) and Scott McGill finished 16th and 17th, respectively.
Following her dominate performance in women’s cross country, Hill would add her second, second-place podium of the day in the women’s downhill, while Kyle Grau (Plantation, Fla.) finished second-overall on the men’s side of downhill racing. In addition to Grau, the Tornados also placed Shaw and junior Callum McEwen (Philadelphia, Pa.) inside the top-10 with fifth and seventh-place rides, respectively.
Brevard will look to close out the 2016 Nationals tomorrow, as they hang on to a slight lead, in route to their first ever mountain bike national title at the Division I level.
