Tornados end 2016 season at QueensOctober 29, 2016
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Brevard College Women’s Soccer Team (3-13-1, 0-10-1 SAC) wrapped up their 2016 season Saturday afternoon as the Tornados fell to Queens University (10-6, 8-3 SAC) 5-0.
The Royals would get things started in the first six minutes of the match as Thea Mallett would score the first goal of the match off an assist by Charlotte Ring. Madison Omli would supply the offense for the Royals in the second half of play as she scored twice following halftime. Shortly after Omli’s second goal, Alana Jefferson would take a shot from the outside of the box that would end up in the top left part of the goal. In the final second of the game, Kelli Gottry would receive a pass from Mariah Lewis to score the final goal of the match.
Tornados’ goalkeeper, Laurel Neuzil (Loudon, Tenn.) was credited with eight saves for the match. Sophomore Elise Youmans (West Hartford, Conn.) came in for the final 17 minutes of play and earned four saves for Brevard. Laurel Neuzil finishes her freshman year currently in second place for most saves in the South Atlantic Conference.
Offensively, Queens out-shot Brevard 37-1. Sydney Michelin, who finished the day with seven shot attempts, led the Royals. The Tornados’ lone shot came from senior Anita Maryskova (Liberec, Czech Republic), who has led the Tornados in shot attempts the past three years.
Saturday’s match marks the last SAC conference soccer match for Brevard, as the Tornados will begin play in Division III next fall.
