Trojans knock off Tornados 3-1October 29, 2016
ANDERSON, S.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Volleyball team (5-20, 4-14 SAC) wrapped up their final trip to the Palmetto State with a 3-1 loss to the Anderson University Trojans (15-11, 11-7 SAC), Saturday afternoon in Anderson, S.C.
Freshman Callie Chappell (Rosman, N.C.) lead the Tornados attack with 14 kills for the afternoon, compiling a .286 hitting percentage and two block assists in the effort. Juniors Stephanie Lambert (Florence, Ky.) and Hannah Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.) each finished with double-digit kills, as Elmore added 12 kills and a .385 hitting percentage, while Lambert recorded 10 and a .348 hitting percentage, also posting a game-high four block assists.
Junior setter Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) finished with a game-high 44 assists, tallying 11 digs and two blocks for the match. Senior Aleksandra Vrvilo (Beaverton, Ore.) posted a team-high 19 digs, while junior Maggie Weiss (Clemmons, N.C.) and Bri Vargas (Maryville, Tenn.) tallied double-digit scoops with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
Senior Savannah Cox (Kannapolis, N.C.) posted seven kills and one block assist for the match, pulling within three block assists from tying the all-time Brevard College record. Cox currently sits at 183 block assists for her career with four games remaining in the regular-season.
Brevard would open the afternoon on a hot streak, hitting .318 for the opening frame battling the Trojans back and forth in the opening set. Before Anderson managed to capitalize on a .350 hitting percentage in the opening frame to take a 25-22, 1-0 match lead.
The Tornados evened the score at 1-1 in the second set, riding a .310 hitting percentage to a 25-14 set victory, aided by 16 kills for the frame, four coming from Chappell and three from Lambert.
The third and fourth sets would belong to the Trojans as Anderson took a 2-1 lead following a third set 25-17 victory, before taking the fourth and final set 25-14 and the 3-1 win.
Brevard will return to action this coming weekend when they host Wingate on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m. following by Coker on Saturday at noon, as part of volleyballs 2016 senior day weekend.
