ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Brevard College Women’s basketball team was picked to finish 12th in the South Atlantic Conference, while Tornados’ senior forward Madison Lenox (Raleigh, N.C.) was named to the SAC Preseason All-Conference second team.

Wingate University was chosen to be the 2017 SAC champions by the league’s head coaches, and will look to repeat as conference champions. The Bulldogs received nine top votes and tallied 119 points from the panel. Anderson came in second place in the preseason polls receiving 105 points. The Trojans finished the 2015-16 season as SAC regular season champions going 23-7 overall and 18-4 in conference play.

The Tornados’ finished the 2015-16 season 1-25 overall 0-22 in conference play. During league play, Brevard had a close game with Lincoln Memorial on December 14, 2015, falling to the Railsplitters 70-72 at home. The Tornados fell to Queens University 60-62 on February 6, 2016, as Brevard made an impressive comeback in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the Royals 23-14.

“This season I expect this team to come out and play the right way, and compete every night,” said head women's basketball coach Donald Hudson. “As long as we do the things that we practice, execute our game olan, and stay together I am not concerned about our preseason ranking. We definitely embrace the underdog role. I am blessed with a great group that will fight every game.”

The Tornados will look to their senior forward to lead them this season. Last season for the Tornados’ Lenox became the fastest player to score 1,000 points at Brevard. She led in team points (411), points per game (15.8), field goals made (154), steals (45) and blocks (28).

“I am very honored to be recognized in such a competitive conference with very skilled players,” said Lenox. Earning this honor just motivates me to work harder during the season because I know what I am capable of achieving. This year, I expect to be a leader on the court even when times are difficult. I want to do more than lead by example. I expect our team to give our all every game because I do not want to end my senior season thinking I could have done more. I just plan to play every game like it’s my last.”

Madison Lenox will look to cap-off her story book career for the Tornados, as the Raleigh native is just 88 points shy of tying the record for most points in Brevard Women’s Basketball NCAA Era history. Madison has already set the NCAA-era record for points in a game with 36 in the season opener at Claflin on November 15. Lenox’s name can be found on most categories in the record book, as she also has the record in scoring average, second in field goals made (424), and second in blocked shots (76) to name a few.

The Tornados will open up on Saturday, November 12, when they travel to UNC Greensboro for a game beginning at 4 pm. The home opener for Brevard will be Tuesday, November 15 against Bob Jones University at 7 pm.
