Tornados dominate Coker on senior dayNovember 5, 2016
BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Volleyball (7-21, 6-15 SAC) team dominated Coker College (12-15, 4-15 SAC) in Saturday afternoon’s conference match, defeating the Cobras 3-0.
During the first set of the match, senior middle hitter, Savannah Cox (Kannapolis, N.C.) tied the record for block assists. As the senior helped her team to a first set win of 25-22 over the Cobras. Cox is currently tied with Jordei Osby and Jamie Atkinson with 183 block assists.
Freshman Callie Chappel (Rosman, N.C.) finished the day with a game high 12 kills. While junior Stephanie Lambert (Florence, Ky.) added ten kills to the Tornados’ tally. Tornados’ setter Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) had 31 assists for Brevard.
Brevard kept the Cobras out of the third set going on to a dominating victory, 25-18 over Coker to seal the win.
After the match the Tornados honored four seniors that have contributed very much to the program. Savannah Cox is third on Brevard records for kills and tied for most block assists. Aleksandra Vrilo is at the top of the leader board in digs, digs per set, sets played, service attempts, service aces in the Brevard NCAA era record book. Bailey Hayes is fifth in assist percentages, and seventh in assists per set with 145. Katie Ruff ended her senior day with a service ace.
The Tornados will be on the road next week as they travel to Carson-Newman on Friday, November 11, for a match beginning at 7 pm. Brevard will then travel to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday November 12 to take on the Railsplitters beginning at 2 pm.
