Volleyball drops season finale 3-0 to LMU

HARROGATE, TENN. – The Brevard College Tornados (7-22, 5-16 SAC) wrapped up the 2016 regular-season with a trip to Harrogate, Tenn., falling 3-0 in straight sets to the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters (23-7, 17-5 SAC).

The Tornados were led offensively by a game-high 11 kills by freshman Callie Chappell (Rosman, N.C.), junior Stephanie Lambert (Florence, Ky.) contributed seven kills, while senior Savannah Cox (Kannapolis, N.C.) wrapped up a brilliant blue and white career with six kills and two block assists.

Cox caps off a Tornados career in which she leaves as the all-time career leader in block assists and will be respected as one of Brevard’s best middle hitters in school history.

Senior Aleksandra Vrvilo (Beaverton, Ore.) finished with a game-high 19 digs, adding to her all-time Brevard College dig total. Junior Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) added a game-high 28 assists and 10 digs, while senior Katie Ruff (Mill Spring, N.C.) wrapped up there career in the blue and white with double-digit digs in the decision.

Lincoln Memorial would open the afternoon with a 25-17 first set victory, opening up a 9-2 lead on the Tornados, before Brevard would battle back to pull within four at 10-6. The Railsplitters would than use a 15-11 run to close out the opening frame.

The Tornados best set of the afternoon came in the second frame, as Brevard used a 19-11 run to begin the second set. However, the Railsplitters would battle back to tie the match a 21-21 before closing out the second frame on a 4-1 run to take a 2-0 lead.

The third and final set of the match would be all Railsplitters as Lincoln Memorial used a 14-6 run to begin the third set, before closing out the final game of the regular-season on a 12-6 run to take the 3-0 win.

With the loss, the Tornados were eliminated from South Atlantic Conference post-season contention as the blue and white needed a win on Saturday to earn the No. 8 seed in the regular-season standings.
