Tornados fall to division I UNC Greensboro in season openerNovember 12, 2016
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Brevard College Women’s Basketball team (0-1) lost in their season opener to UNC Greensboro (1-0), 77-34 on Saturday afternoon.
UNC Greensboro would take control from the beginning of the game outscoring Brevard 22-3 in the first quarter. Spartan guard, Bailey Williams would lead the way for UNCG, scoring 17 points while also dishing out three assists. Gena Penick and Shanese Harris would finish the day with double digit points. Penick would score 14 while Harris added 15 to the Spartans total.
At the end of the first half, UNC Greensboro’s Alexis Pitchford would receive the long rebound from Alexus Willey’s three point attempt to sink a final second three point shot to give the Spartans the 27 point lead going into halftime. Pitchford would end the day with ten points and seven assists.
The Spartans did not let up in the second half as they went on a 7-0 run at the start of the third quarter. Junior Jade Napier (Rockwood, Tenn.) would break up the run with a jump shot off a dish from Lynsey Crisp (Robbinsville, N.C.).
Seniors Lynsey Crisp and Madison Lenox (Raleigh, N.C.) led the way for the Tornados. Lenox scored 13 points and caught nine rebounds. Crisp would finish with double digit points (10) for the Tornados. Freshman Cienna Bryant (Roanoke, Va.) would score her first career three pointer for Brevard in the third quarter.
Brevard will have their first home game Tuesday November 15 against Bob Jones University beginning at 7 pm. During halftime Brevard will be doing a mannequin challenge.
