High Point's perimeter shooting proves too much for BrevardNovember 17, 2016
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Brevard College Women’s Basketball Team (1-2) traveled to High Point University to take on the Division I Panthers from the Big South Conference on Thursday night. High Point (1-1) would come away with the victory over the Tornados, 89-42.
Madison Lenox (Raleigh, N.C.) and Jade Napier (Rockwood, Tenn.) would put Brevard on the board, hitting back-to-back three pointers in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Lenox would score a season high 20 points against the Panthers. The senior was not only successful on the offensive end, but also came away with two blocks, six steals, and led Brevard in rebounds with seven.
Brevard would end the first half down 24-43 to the Panthers. In the closing seconds of the first half, Napier would drive down the lane to score a layup for the final points of the half.
Early in the third quarter, Lenox would come away with a steal and throw the long pass down the court to AnnaLee Bollinger (Hickory, N.C.) who would shoot the easy layup. High Point would then go on a 7-0 run to pull away from the Tornados in the second half.
The Panthers found success behind the arc tonight, converting 11 out of 21 attempts from the perimeter. High Point also controlled the boards coming away with 14 offensive and 40 defensive rebounds. As a team, the Panthers finished with a 76.9% free throw percentage, converting ten out of thirteen shot attempts.
High Point had six players score double-digit points. Kaylah Keys and Emma Bockrath led in points both finishing with 16 points. Panther’s forward, Shea Morgan would come away with 13 points, and eight rebounds to lead High Point in rebounds.
Junior guard Jade Napier would have a solid night for Brevard. Napier would score nine points while forcing High Point into three turnovers on steals. Senior Lynsey Crisp (Robbinsville, N.C.) added seven points to Brevard’s total.
Brevard will have the weekend off, as they prepare for their first SAC conference game of the season on Tuesday, November 22. The Tornados will host Tusculum College in a double header. The women will tip-off at 6 pm and the men will follow.
