Lenox notches 21 as Tornados fall 75-51 to BulldogsDecember 17, 2016
WINGATE, N.C. – Senior Madison Lenox (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds as the Brevard College Tornados (4-5, 1-5 SAC) fell on the road by a final of 75-51 to the Wingate University Bulldogs (6-3, 4-2 SAC).
Lenox would wrap up the afternoon with a team-high three assists, three blocks and three steals, while sophomore AnnaLee Bollinger (Hickory, N.C.) finished a perfect 3-3 from behind the three-point arc, finishing with 14 points on the afternoon.
Junior Jade Napier (Rockwood, Tenn.) pulled down a team-best two offensive rebounds, ending the contest with five total, while junior Kelsie Rhyne (Taylorsville, N.C.) and senior Kyley Clark (Chapel Hill, N.C.) each added a pair of assists.
Wingate’s Marta Miscenko finished with a team-high 19 points and a game-high four blocks, while Amber Neely collected a team-best seven rebounds and Alex Tomlinson dished out a game-high six assists.
The Tornados would open the afternoon on a 7-2 run as Lenox connected from three-point range in the opening minute, before adding her second basket of the game on the team's third possession, following a Bollinger jumper.
Wingate would take the lead at 10-7 following a Shelby Tricoli three-point basket, before Brevard’s Lynsey Crisp (Robbinsville, N.C.) added a three-pointer goal of her own off of a Lenox pass to even the game at 10-10.
Both squads would finish the first quarter of action at an 18-18 standstill as Bollinger connected on two late first-quarter three-pointers to tie the contest.
Rhyne would give the Tornados back the lead at 21-18 coming out of the first quarter break as the Taylorsville, N.C. native netted a triple on a Clark assist.
Wingate would regain the lead with just over eight minutes remaining at 22-21 as the Bulldogs used a 20-11 second-quarter run to take a 38-29 lead into halftime.
Following the 15-minute intermission, the Bulldogs would begin the second half on a 13-0 run, extending their lead to 51-29. Freshman Cienna Bryant (Roanoke, Va.) ended Wingate’s run, connecting on a three-point basket.
The Tornados would pull the game to 57-42 on a Lenox layup, cutting the Wingate lead back to under 15 points with just under one minute remaining in the third quarter.
However, the fourth quarter would belong to the Bulldogs as Wingate outscored Brevard 16-8 in the final quarter to take a 75-51 final.
Brevard will take a brief holiday break before returning back to the floor on Dec. 30 as they travel to LaGrange, Ga. to face off with future USA South member LaGrange. Tipoff set for 5 p.m.
