Tornados fall to Methodist 16-11

FORT MILL S.C. – The Brevard College Men’s Lacrosse team (1-1) fell to Methodist (1-1), 16-11 in Wednesday night’s nonconference matchup.

Hewitt Farr (Sante Fe, N.M.) and Jackson McKaig (Gainesville, Fla.) led the Tornados with three goals. Farr finished the night with four total points, scoring two points and recording two assists. Kyle Hunziker (Gainesville, Fla) and McKaig each finished with 3 points for the blue and white.

Methodist’s Kyle Clarkson finished with five goals and five assists for the Monarchs. Clarkson scored the go-ahead goal for Methodist in the third period off an assist from Jake Smerka.

McKaig scored all three of Brevard’s goals in the first period. The sophomore put the Tornados up 2-0 at the five-minute mark off an assist from Brendan Friss (Mooresville, N.C.). Brevard finished the first 15 minutes with a 3-1 lead.

Brevard kept the momentum going into the second period, as Hewitt Farr and Kyle Hunziker both scored to give Brevard a 2-5 advantage. The Monarchs would score back-to-back goals, but Brevard stopped Methodist’s charge, as Hunziker would score off a pass from Matthew Dropuljic (Brampton, Ontario).

After a brief rain delay during the second period, the Tornados finished the half with an 8-5 lead as David Buono (Bethany, Conn.) scored in the final seconds of the half.

Methodist would come out of the half and score the first two goals. Farr would put the Tornados on the board in the second half. Methodist outscored Brevard 5-1 in the third period to take the lead.

Brevard added two goals to its total in the final minutes of the fourth period as Ryan Taylor (Vaughan, Ontario) and Alex Bazzell (Framingham, Mass) increased Brevard’s total to 11. Methodist would hand Brevard its first loss of the season, with the final score being 16-11.

Xzavier Holmes-Copeland (Woodbridge, Va.) and Christopher Stallings (Bel Air, Md.) combined for eight saves on the night in the goal for Brevard.

Brevard will be on the road this Saturday, as they travel to Emmanuel for a nonconference game beginning at 4 p.m.
