Penland named head Cheer and Dance CoachFebruary 18, 2017
BREVARD, N.C. – Molly Penland has been named the new head coach of the Brevard College Cheer and Dance team for 2017-18 season, it was announced by Vice President of Strategic Planning and Athletic Director, Juan Mascaro on Saturday afternoon.
"Molly brings both excitement and dedication to our cheer and dance program," said Mascaro. "She was a four year letter winner as both a member of the cheer and dance program and I have all the confidence that she will succeed in her new role"
Penland was a four-year member of the Brevard Cheer and Dance team and currently works as the athletic administrator assistant at the college, while pursuing her MBA through Western North Carolina University.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to grow the program,” said Penland. “I want to bring new and exciting opportunities to the team and would personally like to thank Juan Mascaro for trusting me with this opportunity.”
During her time as part of the cheer and dance program, Penland received the Coaches Award as a freshman, team MVP her junior year and earned the Best All-Around award her senior season. Additionally, Penland also served as the Student Athletic Advisory Committee president during her senior year.
Penland has worked as a volunteer coach for the Transylvania Twisters, a local cheer squad, where she assisted in tumbling and preparing the team for competition.
“My focus for next year is to bring in student-athletes that are excited and passionate about competing, but will also bring spirit to Tornados athletics.”
The cheer and dance squad will complete their 2016-17 season at a cheerleading competition on March 25.
