Tornados add standout rider Payten Maness for 2017February 16, 2017
BREVARD, N.C. – Head cycling coach Brad Perley has announced the addition of Flower Mound, Texas native Payten Maness to the team for the upcoming 2017-18 cycling season.
“Payten is joining us already possessing experience racing at the elite level,” said Perley. “She has spent a good amount of time with the team and on campus, so she has already proven to be a great fit on many levels. She's certain to be an important pillar in our women's program for years to come.”
Maness will join a highly talented roster composed of Hannah Arensman (Valdese, N.C.), Janelle Cole (Rockford, Mich.) and Samantha Miranda (Valley City, Ohio), as the team was forced to say goodbye to longtime riders Allison Arensman (Valdese, N.C.) and Sarah Hill (Bryanston, Johannesburg), as the duo graduated in December leaving coach Perley a strong void to fill for the upcoming season.
The Flower Mound, Texas native Maness, arrives at Brevard College as one of the top women’s riders in the country, having won the Erpe-Mere Dames Junior, while finishing third overall at the 17-18 road nationals. Maness was also flagged as the youngest finisher of the Tour de Feminine.
Maness with primarily focus on the disciplines of road and cyclocross, as the true freshman’s passion lies in road, pairing her with Cole to form and dynamic tandem moving forward.
“I chose Brevard because I loved the area the school is in and the team is filled with amazing people,” said Maness.
