BREVARD, N.C. – “The times they are a changing,” – Bob Dylan.
After a month of weight training and cardio conditioning alongside their assistant coaches, members of the Brevard College football team are ready and eager to strap on some pads. A highly organized practice schedule will take place between spring break and the Easter holiday. Practice—helmets only—begins on Monday, March 20, with a later progression into shoulder pads.
While most practices will take place on campus, on Thursdays the team will move to their home venue, Brevard Memorial Stadium, to conduct a showcase full-padded practice known as Thursday Night Thunder, #TNT. These night practices under the lights will start at 6:30 PM on the following dates:
• Thursday – March 23, 2017
• Thursday – March 30, 2017
• Thursday – April 6, 2017
In addition to a new coaching staff, two new off-field additions will also be making their debut this week for the Tornados. Two Phantom Pro drones, dubbed C3PO and R2D2 after characters from Star Wars lore, will be a vital component of filming practice and providing, among other things, a valuable tool for making corrections and evaluations.
Spring practice is another stage in an evolving learning period for the new staff and the players. The coaches are familiar with the players’ conduct as student athletes in the classroom and in their commitment to winter conditioning. It is now time to see them on the field and make sure that the excitement they feel to be back in pads again is matched by their understanding of how and what they must do to be part of a successful season.
