Tornados have strong showing at Montreat College Invitational

MONTREAT, N.C. – The Brevard College Track Team traveled to Montreat College to compete in the Montreat College Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Several Tornados turned in quality performances in the meet.

Senior Marlowe Macklin (Brown Summit, N.C.) turned in a top-10 performance in the Men’s 100M dash with a time of 11.34 to finish in tenth place out of 32 competitors. Freshman Michael Anton (Mt. Ulla, N.C.) placed seventh in the Men’s 800M run out of 23 athletes. Anton ran a 2:00.36. Micah Voelzow ran a 5:00.70 in the Men’s 1500M run.

Junior Hassan Kiprono (Iten, Kenya) continued his impressive season with an eighth place finish in the Men’s 10,000M run. Kiprono finished with a time of 34:43.71.

Tennessee Wesleyan took home the top performance in the men’s competition with a total of 96 points scored over 21 events. Reinhardt followed close behind with a total of 95.50 points, and King College came in third with 83 points.

On the women’s side of the meet. King College took home the top prize with 111 points. Emmanuel College followed with 90 points, and rounding out the top three schools was fellow SAC school, Anderson University with 62 total points.

Four Tornados competed in the women’s 1500M race. Kaitlin Chaump was the first Tornado to finish in the Women’s 1500M run. Chaump finished in 31st place with a time of 5:41.20. Senior Elena Raygoza (Palmdale, Calif.) followed with a time of 5:47.84. Madison Smith (Duvall, Wash.) and Mary Gray Davis (Raleigh, N.C.) also competed in the race, finishing with times of 6:08.57 and 6:57.38, respectively.

Brevard will have one more invitational before the SAC Conference Championships. Brevard will travel to Charlotte next weekend for the JCSU Invitational.
