Tornados win eighth straight, 7-2 over Mars Hill
Brevard sweeps doubles matches
Mars Hill, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados went on the road to claim victory Tuesday, beating the Lions of Mars Hill College, 7-2, in South Atlantic Conference action. The win is the eighth in a row for Paul Thomson's team.
Brevard (12-3, 3-2 SAC) started the day with a sweep in doubles play. Just hours after being named SAC Player of the Week, Lindsay Shaeffer teamed with Kim Dixon to score an 8-3 win over Erika Pinate and Particia La Rovere. Lindsay Hostetter and Kayley Duval beat Adriana Borda and Kim Blythe, 8-2, and Merek Slagle combined with Sara Douglas for an 8-4 victory over Paola Aybar Jimenez and Jordan Dockery.
In singles, Shaeffer rallied to beat Pinate at the top spot, 6-7 (7-3), 6-4, 6-4, while Hostetter retired in her second flight match, allowing La Rovere to win. In the third flight, Mars Hill (3-5, 1-2 SAC) got a point when Borda beat Duval, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, but Brevard dominated at Nos. 4 and 5, with Dixon beating Dockery, 6-0, 6-0 and Jennifer Nyman downing Aybar, 6-0, 6-0. In the sixth flight, Douglas was beaten in the first set but rallied over Blythe, 0-6, 6-1, 10-5.
The Tornados look to keep on rolling Thursday at 3 p.m. against King College. The Lions play at Carson-Newman next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
