Tornados trio takes part in J. Ralph Hargett Memorial
Klochkova drives in first career hole-in-one on 17
Wingate, N.C. - Three of the members of the Brevard women’s golf team took part in the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate Invitational this past Monday and Tuesday at the Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation. Alisiya Klochkova had the highlight of the tournament with a hole-in-one on 17 on day two.
Lucy McNulty led the trio of Klochkova and Erika Kellems with a pair of 89s on the tournament to finish in 42nd, a stroke behind Lincoln Memorial’s Maria Stapleton.
Klochkova carded a first day 98, but improved on the second day by ten strokes, thanks largely to her first career hole-in-one. The freshman from Moscow, Russia drove a five-wood from the tee of the 136 yard hole and watched as it sailed and settled into the cup. Klochkova’s ace was the lone one of the tournament. Klochkova finished her second round with an 88, the low round for the Tornado golfers for the tournament to end in a tie for 54th.
Kellems rounded out the group, carding a 128 on day one. Like Klochkova, Kellems improved by 10 strokes during day two to finish in 62nd with a two-day total of 248.
Brevard College Assistant Coach Shelly Webb had this to say after the tournament, "The course was a difficult one for the women, but the competition was strong, and it was good for our players to be paired up with some of the best in our conference. It was a real taste of Division II competition for our best players." Webb continued on to say, "I see great potential with a good deal of hardwork and practice. Our golfers are getting a feel for collegiate competition, and it is a joy to watch them grow and stretch in their skills and attitude."
The Tornados women’s golf team heads back to the links on Monday, April 6, in Greeneville, Tenn. as they take part in the two day Agnes McAmis Invitational hosted by Tusculum College.
