Tusculum edges Brevard, 5-4
Shaeffer, Dixon score two points each for Tornados
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard Tornados saw their winning streak ended at ten matches Saturday, as they fell, 5-4, to Tusculum. The Tornados fall to 14-4 (5-3 SAC), while the Pioneers improve to 14-3 (7-0 SAC).
The Pioneers won two of three doubles points. Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon picked up a win in the top spot, 9-7 over Carolina Crowe and Katelyn Doss. But Tusculum won at the next two spots; Jennifer Sparks and Amanda Pike edged Kayley Duval and Lindsay Hostetter, 8-6, while Heidi von der Lage and Jessi Smith beat Merek Slagle and Sara Douglas, 8-2.
Shaeffer tied the match with a 6-4, 6-1 over Sparks in the top singles match, but Tusculum earned a point at No. 2 as Hostetter defaulted to Doss. Duval vas victorious over Pike at No. 3, 7-5, 6-0, while Dixon won in the fourth sport, 0-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) over Crowe. Tusculum's von der Lage beat Jennifer Nyman in the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-0, and Blake Thompson won over Douglas on the final court, 6-1, 6-2.
The Tornados host Division I UNC Asheville Monday at 2:30 p.m., while the Pioneers face of with Lees-McRae Sunday at 1 p.m.
