Johnson finds end zone twice
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College football team held their 2nd annual Spring Game Saturday evening at Brevard Memorial Stadium, with the Blue squad beating the White, 17-0. Xavier Johnson (Chester, S.C.) scored two touchdowns on the ground for the Blue team.
After a scoreless first quarter, the White team found the scoreboard on the first play of the second quarter, when Chase Henry (Franklin, N.C.) booted a 22-yard field goal to make the score 3-0 Blue.
Johnson broke the touchdown barrier late in the quarter, capping a long drive with a one-yard plunge into the end zone. Henry's point after was good, putting the Blue up, 10-0.
The final touchdown came on the first drive after halftime. Richard Bush (North Augusta, S.C.) began the drive with a 52-yard run, the longest play from scrimmage of the day. Johnson capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown run. Henry added the PAT to make the score 17-0.
Defense largely dominated the contest. Charles Chambers (Newnan, Ga.) and Justin Jefferson (Greensboro, N.C.) tallied sacks, while Salonik Amos (Grovetown, Ga.) and Michael Gist (North Augusta, S.C.) each came up with an interception and Michael Duff (Talladega, Ala.) picked off two passes, both in the 4th quarter.
The Tornados open the 2009 regular season, their fourth ever, on Saturday, August 29, in Jacksonville, Fla. against Edward Waters.
