McNulty in 13th after day one to lead the Tornados
Brevard in ninth after day one of the SAC Women's Golf Tournament
Etowah, N.C. - Lucy McNulty leads Brevard in their inaugural appearance in the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Tournament, shooting a pair of 83s to sit in 13th after day one.
Alisiya Klochkova improved on her first round 90 with a second round 85 to finish the first day in a tie for 27th with Mars Hill’s Carrie Huskins. Erika Kellems is in sole possession of 41st after day one with a two-round total of 221.
A pair of Tornados rookies, Jessica Guadagno and Carrilea Potter, round out the group, carding day one totals of 249 and 273 to sit in 42nd and 43rd place respectively.
Another inaugural member to the SAC tournament, the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles fired back-to-back rounds of 640 and lead after day one action from the Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort Monday.
The Lady Eagles were led by All-SAC performer Sarah Jane Sinard as she carded 75-75=150 and is tied for the first day lead with Catawba’s Kelsey Babos (All-SAC), who shot 150, including a second round 73, which is the second lowest in SAC Tournament history.
Carson-Newman leads by 19 shots over defending SAC Tournament champion Wingate University (659). Catawba College is third with 668, followed by Tusculum College (674), Newberry College (677), Lenoir-Rhyne University (677), Lincoln Memorial University (691), Mars Hill College (731) and host Brevard College (811).
C-N’s Jessica Tarbet is four shots behind the leaders with 154 and is in third place. Defending SAC Tournament medalist Ashley Denton (Wingate) is fourth with 157, while 2009 SAC Player of the Year Maria Besio is fifth with 158. Brenna Martens (Lenoir-Rhyne) is sixth at 159, while L-R’s Katie Thackerson and Eileen Purpur are tied for seventh with 162. Tusculum’s Emily Palenkas is ninth with 163, while Maria Stapleton (LMU) and Megan Ulep (Lenoir-Rhyne) round out the top 10 with 164.
The final round of the 54-hole championship will be held Tuesday morning at the par 72, 6,796-yard layout.
