Tornados finish ninth in first visit to the SAC Championship

Etowah, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s golf team performed admirably at their inaugural SAC Championship, finishing ninth with a score of 1229 over the three days of the event. Lucy McNulty led the team throughout the tournament, recording a final round 91 on her way to finishing in a tie for 22nd.

McNulty finished up with a three day total of 257, tying Tusculum College’s Adriana Vizcarrondo for 22nd. Alisiya Klochkova finished a stroke behind her teammate on the third day, recording a 92 on her way to a tournament score of 267 to finish in 29th.

Erika Kellems, Jessica Guadagno and Carrilea Potter also represented Brevard College at the SAC tournament, which featured two schools placing women’s teams in the tournament for the first time in Brevard and Carson-Newman.

The Lady Eagles placed two players on the SAC All-Tournament First Team, led by medalist Sarah Jane Sinard, who also led wire-to-wire with three consecutive rounds of 75 to finish with 225, which ties a new SAC Tournament record.  Sinard matched the 225 posted by Catawba College’s Paige Haverty in the 2006 SAC Championship.

Carson-Newman won the title by 15 shots over runner-up Wingate University (983).  Catawba finished third with 999, followed by Tusculum College (1011), Newberry College (1020), Lenoir-Rhyne University (1022), Lincoln Memorial University (1032), Mars Hill College (1107) and Brevard College (1229).

Joining Sinard on the All-Tournament First Team are Kelsey Babos (Catawba), Jessica Tarbet (Carson-Newman), Ashley Denton (Wingate) and Brenna Martens (Lenoir-Rhyne).  SAC Player of the Year Maria Besio (Newberry) finished sixth to garner a spot on the All-Tournament Second Team.  Joining Besio are Eileen Purpur (Catawba), Katie Thackerson (Lenoir-Rhyne), Emily Palenkas (Tusculum), Maria Stapleton (Lincoln Memorial) and Megan Ulep (Lenoir-Rhyne).

The SAC Championship was held at the Par 72, 5,852-yard Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort.
