BC Volleyball Releases 2008 ScheduleMay 1, 2008
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s volleyball team’s 2008 schedule has been finalized, as announced by the BC athletics department in conjunction with head coach Brenda Skeffington.
Once again, the schedule is a challenging one as the Tornados will not only compete against the tough South Atlantic Conference foes, but BC will play 17 road matches on the year, not including the South Atlantic Conference Championship tournament.
The Tornados will open up on August 30 at Montreat College, where BC will play a trio of schools in Shawnee, Montreat and Reinhardt College in a round-robin style format. The Tornados will remain on the road for their next match, as BC travels to Charlotte, N.C. to face off with Queens University of Charlotte on September 3.
Coach Skeffington’s squad will then open their 2008 home slate on September 5 and 6, as the Tornados will host Coker College, Virginia Intermont College and Columbia College in the BC Tournament.
The Tornados will then play host to fellow NCAA Division II member Belmont Abbey on September 11, before hitting the road for the next five matches where they will play the likes of Southern Wesleyan (9/13), North Greenville (9/13), Carson-Newman (9/16) and Lincoln Memorial (9/20).
Brevard then returns home to host Mars Hill on September 23, where the Tornados defeated Mars Hill last year in the friendly confines of Boshamer Gymnasium for their first win over a SAC opponent.
On September 26, the Tornados will travel to Newberry, S.C. to take on the Lady Indians of Newberry, the first of four-straight road matches. BC will turn around to square off with Wingate University on September 27, playing back-to-back SAC matches for the first time on the year.
After a brief break, the Tornados will take on Converse College on October 4, before jumping back into conference play on October 8 with a match at Tusculum.
The Tornados will play host to their next three matches, all against SAC opponents, as BC will take on Catawba on October 10, Lenoir-Rhyne on October 11 and Newberry on October 15.
After traveling up the mountain to Mars Hill for a Friday night showdown on October 17, the Tornados return to Brevard to host Wingate the following day, October 18.
On October 21, the Tornados again hit the road, as they will travel to Tigerville, S.C. to face off with North Greenville, one of three matches between the two schools on the year.
Brevard then returns home to face off with Lincoln Memorial on October 24 and then Carson-Newman on October 25, as part of homecoming weekend at Brevard College.
BC then travels to Lenoir-Rhyne (10/31) and Catawba (11/1) before wrapping up their 2008 conference schedule at home versus Tusculum on November 5.
The Tornados wrap up their 2008 regular season play with a road contest at Columbia College on November 8 and a home match on November 11 versus North Greenville for the season finale.
Brevard will then complete in the 2008 South Atlantic Conference tournament, their first year of eligibility, which will be held in Greeneville, T.N. from November 13-15.
The Tornados are coming off a 16-15 season, where BC competed as a provisional member of both the NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference. While Marquessa Chappell, Kalli Gibson, Brittany Holliday and Jessica Whitmire are gone due to graduation, Coach Skeffington returns eight players from a season ago, including four starters highlighted by senior setter Jami Perry and junior middle hitter Brooke Seaman. Juniors Cori Emory, Megan Street and Christin Johnston, and sophomores Kirstan Carlson, Brooke Sturgill and Rebecca Schoonover, who all saw significant playing time in 2007, all have gained vital playing experience and will contribute immensely in 2008. The 2008 Brevard College team will feature seven newcomers to the roster as well.
