Coach Britne Stubbs adds four new faces to the 2009-2010 squad
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Athletic Department and Coach Britne' Stubbs are pleased to announce Devon Staropoli, Lauryn Whittler, Kayla Dorsey and Katie Dixon have committed to attend Brevard College and play softball for the Tornados in the 2009-2010 season.
Staropoli, a shortstop from Plantation, Fla. comes to the Tornados by way of Plantation High School. The Lady Colonel four-year varsity letter-winner has received both the Player of the Year and Utility Award from Coach Erin Doolittle.
Off the field, Staropoli received the Scholar-Athlete Award from JROTC on April 30, 2008.
Whittler comes to the Tornados from Southfield, Mich. where she caught and played third base for Coach Ken Brown as a member of the Southfield Christian School Eagles. Whittler was on the All-State 1st Team as a junior and was named to the All-District team three times. Whittler was also named to the All-Conference 1st Team in both 2007 and 2008.
In the classroom, Whittler received the Physical Education Senior Award and was on the Honor Roll for both her junior and senior years.
Dorsey comes to Brevard from West Palm Beach, Fla., where she was a second baseman at Palm Beach Community College. The daughter of Doug and Lori Dorsey, Kayla was an All-Conference Honorable Mention award winner in 2009 and received the Panther Award.
While at PBCC, Dorsey was on the Dean's List for two years.
Dixon, an outfielder during her time at East Gaston High School, comes to the team from Mt. Holly, N.C.
The Brevard College softball team went 17-27, 2-14 in the SAC during their inaugural year as members of NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference, advancing to the first round of the 2009 Food Lion SAC tournament.
