Softball Adds to Coaching Staff

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Athletic Department is proud to announce that Anna Williamson will be joining the 2009-2010 softball coaching staff. Williamson will be helping develop the Tornados pitchers, catchers and infielders, and will also assist with the team’s general day-to-day operations under Head Coach Britne Stubbs. Stubbs is extremely excited to welcome Anna to her staff.

"Anna will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program here at Brevard College, having played at both the NCAA Division I and II levels." Stubbs adds, "Her work ethic, enthusiasm and leadership skills will be influential as we move to develop Tornados softball into one of the top programs in the South Atlantic Conference and Division II."

Williamson graduated Suma Cum Laude from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education. She was co-captain at UNC Pembroke where she played second base, third base, right field, and catcher. In 2008, she ranked as high as thirteenth nationally for “Toughest to Strikeout” in Division II. The same season she was named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Sportsmanship Team and Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll. She was also awarded UNC Pembroke’s Strength and Conditioning Female Athlete of the Year award in 2007-2008. Williamson is prepared to translate her experience and knowledge into successful coaching for the Tornados and Coach Stubbs.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to work with Coach Stubbs and the softball program at Brevard College.  Coach Stubbs has done an amazing job with the program thus far in the transition to Division II athletics." Williamson says, "I look forward to working with her in developing Brevard College softball into one of the best programs in the South Atlantic Conference."

In 2008, her team was the Peach Belt Conference Champion and NCAA Regional Host. During that season the team ranked as high as fifth in the nation among Division II teams.

Prior to her two years at UNC Pembroke, Williamson was a catcher and played second base for UNC Wilmington where she was also an instructor for various youth softball camps.
