Gaines, Pursley and Romero added to the Football Coaching Staff
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Athletic Department and Coach Paul Hamilton are pleased to announce the addition of Teddy Gaines, Brock Pursley and Dane Romero to the 2009 BC Football staff. Gaines will be working with the defensive backs, Pursley will be working with the slots, and Romero will be in charge of working with the Tornados fullbacks.
Gaines, a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in History, was a member of the Volunteers 1998 National Championship Football Team. Upon completion of his eligibility, Gaines was selected as the 7th round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2002 NFL draft.
Gaines' professional career included stints with the 49ers, the Rhein Fire, the Chicago Bears and the Montreal Allouettes.
Prior to coming to Brevard, Gaines served as the Strong Side Linebacker Coach and the Nickel and Dime defense coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2008.
Pursley comes to the Tornados from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he served as a student-assistant under Coach Chuck Pagano and Coach John Shoop. While at UNC, Pursley charted personnel groupings, down and distance tendencies, and formation and play tendencies as well as creating defensive grade sheets for each game. Pursley also worked at the UNC Football Camp as the Quarterback Coaching Assistant where he was in charge of several groups implementing drills for both quarterbacks and running backs.
Dane Romero comes to Brevard from Wofford College where he was a 2008 First Team All-American at the fullback position, playing in two Division I FCS Playoffs with the Terriers in 2007 and 2008. A SoCon First Team selection, Romero was the SoCon player of the week twice in 2008.
