Tornados Compete at LMC Early Bird Open
Banner Elk, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s track and field team had a number of individuals compete this Friday afternoon at the LMC Early Bird Open hosted by Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.
On the men’s side, freshman Justin Fleming and sophomore Stephen Dawson each turned in a first-place showing.
BC’s Fleming crossed the line first in the 100 meter dash event, turning in a time of 10.90.
Dawson took first-place overall in the men’s 110 meter hurdles event, finishing with a time of 16.13. Dawson also took first-place in the men’s triple jump event, turning in a distance of 38 feet .5 inches.
Freshman thrower Jacob Richardson took second-place in the shot put event with a distance of 10.48 meters. Richardson also finished fifth in the discus throw with a throw of 24.93 meters.
Sophomore Stanley Jones took second-place in the discus event with a distance of 34.18 meters. Jones also took third-place in the long-jump event with a jump of 19 feet and 6 inches.
In the 1500 meter run, the Tornados had three individuals finish in the top-eight, as Tiffen Tapia, Harrison Vicini and Zach Hazen finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Tornados will return to competition on Friday, March 28, when they will compete at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
