Women's soccer remains undefeated with 2-1 victory
Brevard defeats Young Harris 2-1
Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados held on to beat Young Harris and remain undefeated, with goals from Katie Donohue and Allie Hovis. Goalkeeper Sydney Douglas saved five of six shots lifting the Tornados over the Mountain Lions 2-1.
Brevard advances to 4-0 on the season, while Young Harris falls to 0-3.
Despite out shooting the Mountain Lions 7-2 in first period, the Tornados could not find the back of the net until 35:54 into the game when freshman Chantel Azevedo brought the ball across centerfield and up to Allie Hovis who fired a shot passed Young Harris goalkeeper, Kelsey Cunningham for her fourth goal of the season.
Brevard came out strong in the second scoring five minutes into the period when Kelly Harris hooked a corner kick into Katie Donohue for her first goal of the season putting the Tornados up 2-0.
Young Harris came alive in the second period taking five shots on goal compared to the one they took in the first. Kelsey Battle broke the shut out scoring at the 74:11 mark.
The Mountain Lions threatened to tie the game with 20:00 remaining when they passed the ball into an open field in front of Douglas. Douglas was able to out run the charging Young Harris player and secure the ball for the Tornados.
econds later the Mountain Lions threatened again, this time Kayla Yingst coming up big for the Tornados when she over powered the offensive player taking control of the ball.
Brevard held on for the 2-1 victory elevating their record to 4-0.
The Tornados are back in action again on Sunday for a noon start against Montevallo at home.
