Lenoir-Rhyne defeats Brevard 3-0
Brevard, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne’s All-SAC forward Laura Linehan scored a goal and added an assist for the bears as the Tornados fell 3-0 in their conference opener.
Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 6-1, while Brevard drops to 4-3 and 0-1 in the conference.
The Bears’ first goal came at 21:33, following a Brevard foul, when Mariel Mena scored an unassisted goal to notch her second of the year.
Sydney Douglas and the Tornados held off Lenoir-Rhyne for the rest of the first period and went into the half down 1-0. However, Lineham struck for the Bears just five minutes into the second period when she headed her sixth goal of the season into the net off of a cross from Kaelia Frazier making the score 2-0.
Lenoir-Rhyne showered Douglas with 21 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Douglas had just made a save when Elizabeth Hawes found the ball and knocked her eighth goal of the season into the net for the Bears third goal.
Brevard shot six times, Bailey Varley leading the team with two of those shots.
The Tornados will play their second conference match when they return home this Saturday, September 19 for a conference match-up with Lincoln Memorial at 1:00 p.m.
