Carson Newman defeats Brevard 6-0
Jefferson City, Tenn - The Eagles were too much for the Tornados in their first SAC game of the year. Robert Hill scored a goal and added two assists while Ben Backstrom added a goal and an assist for Carson Newman en route to a 6-0 victory.
After lightening delayed the game for an hour and a half, Carson Newman came out and scored two goals with in a minute. The first came twenty minutes into the first half when Richard Marquetty crossed a pass to Ben Backstrom who put the ball into the right corner of the net. The Eagles struck again when Daniel Tackling dribbled through the defense and put one past Jack Shaw.
With twelve minutes remaining in the first half, Thomas Kombol replaced Jack Shaw in goa. Shaw had save two of four shots on goal in 33:15.
Minutes later Robert Hill lobbed a pass to Adam Thomas who scored to put the Eagles up 3-0. Hill added another assist at 40:13 when he connected with Daniel Zitt for Carson Newman’s fourth goal.
Three minutes after the half, Hill scored a goal to go with his set of assists to put the Eagles up 5-0. Backstrom registered an assist when he connected with Marcello Roberts for Carson Newman’s sixth goal and final goal at 80:49.
Carson Newman outshot Brevard 24 to 10 as Craig Galloway led the team in shots with three.
Thomas Kombol played 53:11 for the Tornados and allowed four goals while recording one save.
The Tornados play their second conference game of the season this Wednesday, September 23, when Tusculum travels to Brevard.
