Tornados run at Appalachian State Invite

Boone, N.C.- The Brevard College Cross Country team competed last Friday at the Appalachian State Invite against runners from Queens University, Ohio State, Appalachian State, Clemson, Milligan, Lees-McRae, UNC-Wilmington, King College, Montreat, Emory and Henry, and Carson-Newman.

In the Women’s 5K race Melissa Schmidt paced the Tornados, finishing the course in 22:53.33. Christie Converso was close behind turning in a 23:12.80 time. Danielle Messer crossed the line in 24:10.02 and Ariel Muiselaar finished in 25:36.60. Appalachian State’s Brittany Caudle placed first in the 108-woman field with a 17:53.25 mark. The Mountaineers also won the team event.

The men ran 6400 meters and Matthew Crowe led the Tornados with a 22:15.77 finish to place 65th in the 126-man field. Matthew Lambert finished 94th in 23:42.01. Jonathon LaVelle crossed in 24:40.93. Tiffen Tapia followed shortly after in 24:57.59. Anthony McCaffrey turned in a 26:36.68 result and Daniel Modahl ran for 27:51.54. Michael Crouch of Queens University finished first in 19:41.29. Ohio State took top honors in the team event.

The Tornados resume racing next Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C.
