Lenoir-Rhyne tops Brevard 4-1
Hickory, S.C. - The Tornados and Bears opted to move Saturday’s game to Lenoir-Rhyne after rain saturated Brevard’s home field, however rain clouds hung over Hickory, N.C. as well and poured down on the teams for ninety minutes. After Renato Barbosa and the Tornados struck first, Dave Bailey’s hat trick led the Bears in the second half as they battled back to defeat Brevard 4-1.
Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 5-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while Brevard falls to 1-8 and 0-3 in the SAC.
Barbosa scored the Tornados lone goal twelve minutes into the first half when Alec Darcey’s shot bounced off the cross bar to Barbosa who was alone inside the box.
The Bears came out strong in the second half as Bailey scored his first goal of the game at 45:33 on a pass from Brendan Howard that came from 30 yards outs. Shortly after, Jon Abraham scored the tie-breaker off of Gary Higgins’ cornerkick.
Bailey’s second goal came at 61:45 when he shot the ball from 40 yards out to put the Bears ahead 3-1. His final goal came off of another Higgins cornerkick at 88:38.
Goalkeeper, Jack Shaw faced just four shots, two of which were on target in the first half opposed to the 17 shots the Bears poured on in the second half. Shaw totaled two saves while allowing four goals while the Bears’ keeper Tom Heath allowed one goal and saved one.
The Tornados will return to action on Wednesday when Mars Hill travels to Brevard for a 4 p.m. game.
