Tornados fall in South Atlantic Conference action, 3-0October 13, 2009
Newberry, S.C. - Brooke Seaman and Chelsea Larsen combined for 17 kills on Tuesday night against Newberry College, but the Tornados were unable to come back from an early two game deficit in falling in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-22.
Brevard falls to 11-9, 1-8 in conference play for the season, while Newberry improves to 15-9, 5-4 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Seaman, the Tornados preseason All-SAC First Team selection, had nine kills on the evening with a kill percentage of 40.0% to go with five blocks. Chelsea Larsen was close behind with eight kills to go with five digs as the Tornados hit 15.8% for the game.
Bethany Stevenson had 23 assists for the day to go with seven digs, while Rebecca Schoonover led the way from the backline with a team-high 18 digs.
Newberry was led by Kember Lichtie who recorded a game-high 19 kills, hitting 41.2% on the evening. She was joined by Fernanda Frey who also recorded a double-digit kill effort with 10 kills.
Blair Browning set up the scarlet and gray attack with 40 set assists, while Lichtie had a game-high 19 digs.
Brevard is back in action on Friday, October 16th, as they head to Hickory, N.C. to take on host Lenoir-Rhyne in a South Atlantic Conference matchup. First serve between Tornados and Bears is set for 6 p.m.
