Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s baseball team dropped game one of their final three-game weekend series on Friday afternoon, as No. 15 Erskine used the long ball to defeat the Tornados 7-2.

Erskine took an early 2-0 lead by way of a two-run homerun of the bat of second-baseman Chas Anthony in the first inning of play.

BC got one run back in the bottom half of the first, as catcher Josh Miller singled to center field to score Brice Warner from second and put the score at 2-1.

However, the long ball came back to haunt the Tornados again in the top of the third, as right-fielder Bryan Fogle sent a towering shot over the left-center field fence for a three-run homerun, pushing the Flying Fleet ahead by four at 5-1.

Erskine added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by a Keith Hill RBI single to put the visitors on top 7-1.

The Tornados pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Mitch Hefner sacrifice fly to right field, but it wasn’t enough as BC fell at home 7-2.

Erskine right-hander Mike Moore (10-1) picked up the win, as he went the distance allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out nine over the nine inning contest.

BC junior right-hander Spencer Linn (1-8) was handed the loss, as he gave up seven runs on nine hits while striking out seven Erskine hitters over eight innings of work.

Miller led BC at the plate, as the sophomore was 3-4 with an RBI, while Hefner was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. The other two BC hits came off the bat of Brice Warner and Linn, as each was 1-4 for the game.

For the Flying Fleet, Fogle was 3-4 with a homerun, three RBIs and one run scored, while Anthony was 2-4 with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Tornados (10-36) will wrap up their 2008 season tomorrow afternoon, as BC will host No.15 Erskine College in a double-header. The first game is slated for a 12 p.m. start time.
