Whitson named Preseason All-American Honorable Mention

Senior forward joins Moore and Houston on list

Brevard, N.C. - Jonathan Whitson was named to the 2009-10 Division II Bulletin Preseason Honorable Mention All-American Team this past week, joining Tusculum’s Kyle Moore who was listed among the Super 16 and Catawba’s Antonio Houston on the Honorable Mention list.

Whitson, who garnered First Team All-SAC honors last season as well as NABC All-Southeast and Daktronics All-Southeast Second team honors, is the first Tornado basketball player to be recognized by this prestigious list after averaging 19.1 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also led the South Atlantic Conference in rebounding as well as made field goals made.

The senior forward from Clyde, N.C. comes into this season as the Tornados all-time leading scorer and rebounder at 1,479 points and 686 rebounds, and has a career average of 18.04 points per game also tops in BC history.

The Tornados men’s basketball team starts the 2009-2010 season on Monday, November 9th as Brevard travels to Asheville, N.C. for an exhibition against UNC-Asheville with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
