Megan Street records last kill of match to clinch win
Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados recognized their five seniors after the game against Columbia (S.C.) College, but first had to play the Fighting Koalas on the court in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Fittingly, senior outside hitter Megan Street recorded the game-winning kill in the four-set victory, 23-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-18.
Sophomore Chelsea Larsen led the Tornados with 13 kills in the match, hitting 16.7 percent to go with 11 digs and two blocks. Brooke Seaman and Ashlie Morrison each had nine kills in the game and Seaman, the Tornados all-time leader in blocks with 520 in her four-year career, added seven to her total in the match.
Bethany Stevenson set up the attack with 40 set assists in the match and Rebecca Schoonover, Chelsey Trojan and Stevenson also joined Larsen with double-digit dig efforts with Schoonover leading the way with a match-high 16.
Columbia was led by Nikki Golston who recorded a game-high 19 kills, hitting 45.5 percent on the afternoon. Tara Prater had 12 kills and Aarika Munro-Steingraeber added 10 to the Fighting Koalas attack, while defensively Columbia was led by Erica Allman’s 15 digs.
After the game, Brevard recognized the contributions of Cori Emory, Megan Street, Brooke Seaman, Christin Johnston and Chelsey Trojan to the program throughout their time at Brevard, including leading the team to their second straight Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament.
The Tornados continue their season on Friday, November 13th, as Brevard will take on #1 seed Wingate in Greeneville, Tenn. in the first round of the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament. This will be the second time the teams have met in the tournament, with the Tornados falling in four games to the top-seeded Bulldogs in 2008. First serve between the teams will be announced later this week.
