Hickory, N.C. - The Brevard College Baseball team (4-11, 1-9) fell at Lenoir-Rhyne (9-11, 4-3) 25-7 Saturday afternoon at Bear Field. The Bears scored 15 runs in two innings to erase an early 3-1 Tornado lead.
Matthew Pruitt’s two-run home run to left center gave Brevard a 2-1 lead in the second inning. BC added a single run in their half of the third on a Kramer Clark RBI groundout that scored Ben Pacey.
L-R responded with eight runs in six hits in the bottom of the third, as Evan Taylor and Stephen Andrews each had solo home runs and two run-doubles in the frame.
A seven-run Bear fourth inning was punctuated by two-run singles from Rob Knight and Chris LaVenia. L-R posted three runs in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
Brevard scored three runs on five hits in the ninth, as Stephen Mullis hit a two-run homer and Brett Brinson doubled to right field to drive in Matt Ennis.
Mullis went three for five in the game with two driven in and a run scored. Pruitt, Kellen Moman, Eric Renegar, and Jackie Corn all had two hits each in the loss.
Jacob White went two and two thirds innings and suffered his fourth loss of the season. L-R’s Chris Henderson improved to 3-2 this year with his seven inning effort, in which he allowed nine hits and four runs, all earned, while striking out nine.
The Tornados and Bears conclude the series with a doubleheader at Bear field with first pitch for game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
