Hickory, N.C. - The Tornados baseball team fell in both games of a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne, dropping game one, 18-12 and while falling 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Bears Field.
The Tornados fell to 4-13, 1-11 in SAC play, while the Bears, with the sweep, improve to 11-11, 6-3 in conference action.
Game 1: Lenoir-Rhyne 18, Brevard 12
Brevard got off to a good start in Game One, leading 3-0 after the top of the second.
Eric Renegar lead off the game with a double to left field and came around to score on a Kramer Clark single.
The Tornados added two runs in the second. Matthew Pruitt was hit by a pitch and advanced to third after a Matt Ennis double to left. M.A. Dozier reached on an error that plated Pruitt and Ennis.
The Bears responded with five runs in the bottom of the second. Stephen Andrews led off the frame with a home run to right center. Dalton Hall and Colton Hansley contributed RBI singles. Hank Wofford added an RBI double.
L-R put up six runs on four hits in the fourth. Wofford hit another RBI double to left center. Rob Knight notched a two-run single. Evan Taylor hit the first of his two home runs, taking a Brennan Daniels pitch over the left center field fence to drive in two runs.
Brevard scored six runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh. Pruitt. Ennis, and Renegar each had RBI singles. Ronald Patterson added a two-RBI single, and Moman capped off the scoring with a single to drive in Renegar.
Moman was 4-5 in the game with two RBI and a run scored. Renegar added three hits
Daniels picked up his third loss of the season. Brandon Padgett worked four innings and allowed six runs but still improved to 2-1 on the year.
Game 2: Lenoir-Rhyne 6, Brevard 1
Lenoir-Rhyne took game two 6-1 in seven innings, scoring 4 runs in a three inning span to break open an early 2-0 lead.
The Bears scored single runs in the third and fourth innings after scoring two runs in the second on a Brian Dice home run to left center. Hansley hit a solo shot in the sixth. Knight capped off the scoring with a double to center to plate Wofford.
Jackie Corn hit a solo home run, his third homer in four games, which helped BC avoid the shutout. L-R starter Ben Goldston allowed one run in six innings to win his first game of the year. Matthew Pruitt worked five and two thirds innings and fell to 1-4 this season.
Brevard hosts Milligan at Gil Coan Field in a double header Tuesday, March 16, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
