Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Athletic Department and Coach Brenda Skeffington are pleased to announce that Erin Cox, Erin Rollins, Kortney Conner and Sawyer Gray have all committed to attend Brevard College and play volleyball in the 2010-2011 season.
Cox, a 5-8 setter from Stoneville, N.C., comes to the Tornados from Rockingham County High School. Cox was an All-Conference Mid-State 3A selection in 2008 and 2009 with the Cougars and received the Most Improved award in 2008. Rockingham also won the conference and was tournament champions in both 2008 and 2009 while Cox was a part of the team.
Off the court, Cox was a member of the National Honor Society, a Scholar Athlete and was a recipient of the Kitty Hawk Air Society Scholar Award.
Rollins, a 5-10 middle hitter from Murphy, N.C., comes to Brevard from Hiwassee Dam High School. While at Hiwassee, Rollins was an All-Conference selection and was named Conference Player of the year as well as receiving the Farm Bureau Athlete of the Week and finished the season as an All-WNC team honorable mention selection.
Off the court, Rollins was named to the Honor Roll and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was also a Junior Marshal and received the NCHSAA Student-Athlete award and the All-American Scholar Award.
Conner, a 5-10 outside hitter from Franklin, N.C., comes to the Tornados from Franklin High School. A three-time All-Conference play, Conner was named to the 2008 All-Tournament team and was the Most Valuable Player at the 2008 regionals. Conner was also a member of the Winning in Christ Volleyball Club.
Gray, a 5-10 right side hitter from Sneads Ferry, N.C., comes to the Tornados from Dixon High School. Gray was the captain of the team for two years as well as leading the team to the state playoffs for two seasons.
The Tornados volleyball team went 15-15, 3-13 in the South Atlantic Conference in 2009, becoming the first Brevard College team to qualify for postseason play two years in a row, after reaching the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament.
The Tornados open up their spring season on Saturday, March 20th, taking on Western Carolina in Boshamer Gymnasium at 1 p.m.
